If you have not paid (or have not paid in full) your tax bills recently, you will soon receive a letter from the tax authorities. The letter will state the amount still due. Payment must be made by 31 August at the latest (the tax authorities will take the date on which the payment is credited to their bank account as the due date).
Provisional income tax assessment for 2020
You will receive a separate letter regarding the outstanding payment of the monthly instalments for the provisional 2020 income tax assessment. The letter relates to a single instalment. This instalment must be paid by 1 September 2020.
If you have outstanding payments for several instalments, you must also pay these by 1 September 2020. If you fail to do so, you may be charged additional costs relating to the reminder and/or a court order.
I can’t pay
But what if you don’t have the money to pay your tax bills? If you’re a business owner and are unable to pay on time due to the coronavirus, you may be able to apply for a deferral of payment. You can find more information on this in this article.
If you are not self-employed, you may be able to arrange a payment plan with the tax authorities. To do so, please contact the tax authorities by telephone on 0800 – 0543. Please have your citizen service number to hand.
PLEASE NOTE! If you do not pay and do not contact the tax authorities, they will issue an enforcement order. There are costs associated with this enforcement order.
