The first financial institutions have already sent out their annual statements for 2016. And it won’t be long before annual statements of earned income are sent out.
List
So it’s time to gather the documents you need to complete your 2016 income tax and national insurance contributions return. To help you with this, we have once again this year prepared a list compiled. This list sets out the documents you may need to complete your 2016 tax return.
This checklist naturally relates to tax returns filed by private individuals. Business owners must submit their full accounts so that we can use them to draw up the balance sheet and profit and loss account. Those receiving income from other sources are not always required to keep full accounts. However, business owners and those receiving such income can use the checklist for their private documents.
Digital
Many documents are no longer sent by post – or at least not as standard – by employers, banks and similar organisations. In many cases, you will receive an email containing the information. Or a message informing you that you can download your annual statement or summary from the financial institution.
Of course, it’s perfectly fine if you send us the information for your tax return electronically. You can do this, for example, by forwarding the files you have received from financial institutions or downloaded yourself to us by email.
Pre-filled 2016 tax return
We can also download the details that the Tax and Customs Administration has already filled in for you for your 2016 tax return. You can read how this works here. It is important that you forward the authorisation letter you receive from the tax authorities to us as soon as possible. This authorisation is only valid for a limited period.
DigiD
We do not need your DigiD to submit your 2016 tax return. We will submit your tax return, along with any other requests relating to it, to the Tax and Customs Administration using our tax return software.
